Your Company Code of Conduct is an important tool for tackling behaviour issues. It translates to how you expect people to behave at your business. It’s an important tool for managing anyone involved with your business. Or organisation. Refer to them especially when someone behaves in a way that is not desired. Of course, it means, they must know your policies. So, make sure everyone has them. And signs off their understanding of them.

Tackle bad behaviour with your code of conduct.

In my experience, often it’s behaviours that cause issues in business. Addressing them is important to prevent issues from becoming bigger. Act fast and without emotions getting in the way. Ensure you have a well written and understandable Code of Conduct. It’s your business guide to the desired behaviours. And the opposite. It’s a guide for you and anyone involved with your business. It must highlight the expected behaviours of people involved with your business. You can underline any behaviours. That are not desired. And show that to any person whose undesirable behaviours are an issue. It’s a nice easy, unemotional way to address behavioural issues.

How to discuss the unwanted behaviour

Book a meeting with the person. Show them the policy. Highlight the undesired behaviour. And let them know they must stop. Listen to their response. Ask them how you can help. Document it. Follow it up in a few weeks. And go through the same process each time. If the problem persists, warn them if it continues you will have to let them go. So, their job is at risk. If they’re a supplier their relationship with your business will end. That’s why it’s so important to have company policies in place. And to enforce them by following their procedures. So, make sure you have policies. Follow the procedures. And ensure everyone is aware of them. And enforce them. It’s essential to safeguard your employees from any kind of harm in the workplace. That goes for anyone interacting with your business.

Use your company policies on any subject to deal with problem behaviours or performance of the role

You can follow the same procedure with anyone in your business. To address undesirable behaviour. Remind them of the company policy. That relates to their behaviour. And warn them. That any further breach could result in ending their involvement with your business. If you would like to know more, you can book a FREE 15-minute discovery call with me.
